Squamish, The Chief & Capilano Suspension Bridge

Vancouver is truly a beautiful city. There are several mountains to hike & many activities to do throughout the season! One of the kitchen staff, RJ, from Fable restaurant took me on a hike to Squamish, to climb the chief! It is said to be one of the best hikes with a rewarding view once you reach the peak! There are 3 peaks on the chief. RJ & i hiked to the 2nd & 3rd peak. We skipped the first one as RJ mentioned that there is a better view from the 2nd peak onwards.

The start of the hike for the first 40mins was tough! It was a never ending flight of stairs! 2mins into the hike i was panting like crazy. Tbh i was pretty surprised that i got so tired in such a short span of time considering that i work out daily! RJ then explained that no matter how fit you are, you'd still be exhausted from the hike. It ain't easy, but it's def do-able! I had an amazing time hiking up the chief! Worth all the buckets of perspiration & aching legs!

THINGS TO NOTE (if you are doing the hike):

  • Ensure that you empty your bowels before beginning the hike (There are no toilets up in the mountain. There is one located at the base of the mountain.)
  • Bring at least 2 big water bottles to keep hydrated (There aren't any shops at the base or peak of the mountain.)
  • Wear comfortable shoes (The hike gets steeper towards the end.)

Squamish, The Chief.

This is the one & only toilet located at the base of the mountain!
This is an overview of the chief!

Certain part of the trail, you'd need to use the metal chains to pull yourself up. (This is why a pair of comfortable shoes is very important!)

 SECOND PEAK!

There are marks such as the photo above, nailed to the tree trunks. Find these marks and follow it. The markings leads you to the correct paths towards each peak & when going back down too.

*If you walk to a point where you can no longer see any marking, retrace your steps & look for markings again. One wrong turn & you may end up lost in the mountain!*

 THIRD PEAK!

Shannon Falls

After our hike at the chief, we headed to the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park as it is along the way from Squamish. There is a bus from downtown Vancouver that takes you to Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. To find out how to get there, click on the linkhere. It's the Canadian translink website which shows you which bus to take & what street to board the bus/train.

It is a reliable website & used by majority of the Canadians. The buses can be really confusing so the link helps heaps in planning your trip for you. Example provided below. Click on the "TRIP PLANNER" category and type in the info!
